WHAT THE WORDS GENERALLY MEAN

Life insurance policies can be easier to evaluate once the vocabulary makes sense.

A death benefit is generally the amount a policy is designed to pay to the beneficiary when a covered insured dies, subject to the policy's terms. A premium is the amount paid to keep coverage in force. Permanent policies may also show values such as cash value or cash surrender value.

Riders are optional or included policy provisions that can add or modify benefits. Grace periods, contestability provisions, surrender charges, policy loans, conversion options, and other terms can affect how a policy works.

NEED A HUMAN EXPLANATION?

Bring the policy. Ask questions. Understand what you own.

A policy review can focus on understanding your current contract before you make any decision about it.
